  • Cultural safety

Cultural safety is both a process and an outcome based on respectful engagement that recognizes and strives to address power imbalances, racism, and discrimination within healthcare systems. Originating in Indigenous health and reconciliation efforts, cultural safety aims to foster environments where people feel safe, valued, and heard when receiving healthcare. It seeks to identify, challenge, and address racism, discrimination, and power imbalances, while recognizing that achieving culturally safe and equitable healthcare environments requires ongoing systemic change.
